Ephesus

After the nights scare in Izmir, we headed for Ephesus. It was hot and humid without the slightest hint of a breeze, but the ruins are all quite stunning. There isn’t a whole lot of story telling to go with it, so I’ll jump straight to the photo’s.

Statue of the virgin goddess Artemis. The Roman virgin goddess was combined with a pagan goddess of fertility, hence the plethora of breasts and making this Artemis a one off in the world of Roman mythology.

We also got tickets to see Terrace House #2, which has some amazingly preserved floor tiling and fresco walls from the Roman elite of Ephesus.

In the halls under what used to be a pagan temple are stored the many thousands of other artifacts that aren’t on display.

That night the Istanbul Beșiktaș (football team everyone likes) were playing, so James and I went down to partake in the excitement. Thankfully they won, because the losers burnt their stadium down. I’m surprised no one set anything on fire with their celebratory flairs though!
